Hold reduction (deletion) looks at how signs flow together in a sequence. In ASL, each sign has a moment of hold at its peak or end. When signs are produced one after another, the pause between the end of the first sign and the start of the next is often shortened or even removed to keep the signing smooth. This means you move directly from the end position of the first sign into the start position of the next with little or no extra hold. It’s about tightening that boundary, not adding movement, not changing the sign’s place, and not specifically deleting the weak hand.
